The in-person symposium will foster discussion and collaboration among experts, advocates, government, business leaders, and NGOs to help solve societal problems

ELBURN, Ill. - A one-day in-person Civil 20 (C20) symposium, “Compassion, the Need of the Hour,” will take place July 8 from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at MA Center Chicago in Elburn, Illinois, a far-west suburb of Chicago. The symposium is designed to generate discussion on key topics and share insights relevant to the global community. This event – which will include informational talks by experts, interactive workshops, and inspired cultural performances – is one of hundreds that have taken place all over the world to help voice the needs and aspirations of everyday people to the Group of 20 (G20) leaders, who have the power to implement policies and provide resources that address challenges facing communities across the globe.

India holds the G20 presidency this year, and the government of India appointed Mata Amritanandamayi, known as “Amma” all over the world, as the Chair of the C20. In the initial C20 meeting, Amma said, “Hunger, conflict, extinction of species, and environmental destruction are the most important issues facing the world today. We should put in sincere effort to develop solutions. If scientists of all fields – computer science, mathematics, physics, and engineering, etc. – would all work together, we would be able to create more innovative methods of predicting environmental catastrophes, and we would be able to save so many lives. Often, we see a lack of multidisciplinary and integrated effort. This is the need of the hour.”

Event sessions at the July 8 “Compassion: the Need of the Hour” C20 symposium at MA Center Chicago will underscore the importance of empathy and kindness in today’s world, specifically related to five key topic areas represented by official C20 working groups: technology, education, health, gender equality, and sustainability. Expert speakers will share experiences and insights on how compassion can help us build stronger communities and create positive change, empowering participants to support and contribute to societal good in their communities. Multiple respected Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) that have demonstrated a strong commitment to social impact and advocacy will participate. Registration is free. To learn more about the event or sign up, visit https://bit.ly/c20chicago.

About the G20 and C20:

The Group of 20 (G20) is a forum of 19 countries and the European Union. It is the premier intergovernmental forum for the world’s developed and emerging economies to address financial stability on a global basis. The Civil 20 (C20) is an official engagement group of the G20 and provides a platform for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) around the world to voice the needs and aspirations of everyday people all over the globe to the G20 world leaders. Since the inception of India’s G20 presidency, delegates from thousands of CSOs, academia, government, and business leaders from across the world have participated in hundreds of meetings, workshops, and discussions to create policy recommendations designed to tackle global issues. The culmination of this effort will be the G20 Leaders’ Summit, which will take place Sept. 9-10, 2023, in New Delhi, India
